Industrial Relations Policies

The Maori Party supports the Employment Relations Act 2000, and any amendments which make it more worker-friendly;
The Maori Party would oppose any repeal of the Employment Relations Act 2000;
The Maori Party will retain the increase of the minimum annual leave entitlement to four weeks;
The Maori Party supports the Injury Prevention, Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2001, and any amendments which make its provisions more accessible and equitable to all affected parties;
The Maori Party advocates for an increase in the minimum wage to $15 per hour;
The Maori Party would support pay and employment equity legislation;
The Maori Party advocates for more training and apprenticeships through partnerships with strategic industries and institutions, with a particular focus on sectors where there are skill shortages;
The Maori Party advocates for the creation of meaningful employment. Employment creation initiatives centre around developing incentives, programmes and initiatives to facilitate business/industry partnerships with whanau, hapu and iwi Maori; and also collective business development strategies that increase economic participation and encourage local and regional self-reliance.
