This Saturday is election day and according to recent polls it promises to be a close one.
EPMU senior national industry officer Paul Tolich says union members have always played a strong democratic role in the workplace and in their wider community and always seen that democracy isn't just to be used in the interest of a few but in the interests of the many.
And this year is no different. "We've reported back to our members on what parties say they stand for and what their policies are in the crucial area of work rights and the economy,"
"Members have also been to the Wage Drive rallies and received copies of our leaflets and The Metal," says Tolich, "now is the time for them to make their decisions and exercise their democratic right to vote."
"The most important thing people need to do is to weigh up what their vote will mean for them, their families, their work mates and for working people as a whole," says Tolich, "and make their vote is used and that they encourage others to get out and vote as well."
If any members are interested in helping get out the vote on election day please contact the EPMU support centre on 0800 1 UNION and we'll put you in touch with your local campaign.
